How Often Should Your Child See An Eye Doctor?
kid with piece paper Our Bronx optometrist is happy to provide eye care services for your whole family, kids included. According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), your child should receive an eye examination at 6 months of age, 3 years of age, before first grade, and every two years thereafter. Those regulations are for infants and children who are asymptomatic or risk-free.
If your child is at risk of a vision problem due to infection during pregnancy, difficult or assisted labor, pre-maturity, low birth-weight, known or suspected central nervous dysfunction, or family history of severe eye disease, then once he or she reaches preschool age, an exam will be required yearly. You need to have a one-on-one consultation with the optometrist to determine how often your child should be checked.
Why Bronx Pediatric Eye Care is Important
Our optometrists at Pelham Parkway Vision Center understand the importance of having comprehensive eye care for your child. Poor vision can have a detrimental effect on your child’s ability to learn and excel in school, since up to 80% of learning is conducted visually. That’s why we urge parents to bring their kids in to see the eye doctor so that problems can be handled proactively, rather than reactively.
Our staff of knowledgeable doctors and specialists recognizes that this process might be frightening for both you and your child. So, we do our best to make the environment and your visit comfortable. Call us today to schedule your child’s appointment.
